Free Weight Tracker Apps With No Subscription for iPhone

By The Periscope Team · · Updated · 6 min read

Truly free iPhone weight trackers with no in-app purchases include Periscope, Weigh In, CompareMyself, Weight Diary Lite and Apple Health. Periscope is the most complete of them, with a smoothed trend, progress photos, widgets and Apple Health sync. Weight Diary Lite is the closest free rival if you want a trend line and export instead of photos.

Key takeaways

  • "Free" on the App Store covers three models: no purchases at all, a free tier with a subscription, and a free trial that ends in a one-time price.
  • As of October 2026, Periscope, Weigh In, CompareMyself and Weight Diary Lite list no in-app purchases, and neither do the Weight Gurus and RENPHO Health scale apps.
  • Calorie counters keep weight logging free but charge for speed and depth: MyFitnessPal's own comparison lists barcode scan, custom macro goals and ad-free logging as Premium only.
  • Apple Health is free, already on your iPhone and collects weight from any compatible scale, but Apple doesn't describe progress photos or a goal weight.
  • If a small one-time price is fine, Weight Diary ($7.99) and Fitness Trackr ($4.99) avoid subscriptions entirely.

If you want a free weight tracker app with no subscription, the App Store is less helpful than it looks, because almost every result says Free under the icon. Open a few and the picture changes: a trial that starts on first launch, an ad banner under your chart, a progress-photo button with a padlock on it. None of that is wrong; developers have to get paid. But if you want something that will never ask for money, the list gets short.

Periscope, a free iPhone weight tracker, is made by us and is included in this comparison. We researched each app from its App Store listing (including the in-app purchase list) and official site in October 2026. We didn't use every app for weeks, and where a listing or site is silent we say "Not stated". Prices are US App Store prices as of October 2026 and will change.

How we compared

We sorted apps by what you'd ever have to pay, using each listing's In-App Purchases section:

  1. Truly free: no in-app purchases listed at all.
  2. Free with a subscription: core logging free, more behind a monthly or yearly plan (sometimes with a lifetime option).
  3. One-time purchase: pay once, or a free trial then pay once.

For the truly free apps, we then checked what you actually get: a smoothed trend line, progress photos, Apple Health, export and whether you need an account.

Weight Gurus and RENPHO Health are companion apps for their makers' smart scales, so they're free in the way a TV remote is free. If you already own one of those scales, their apps measure more than any other free option here (body fat, water, muscle and more), and RENPHO Health has an Apple Watch app.

Are there free weight loss apps with no subscription?

Yes, but most of the big weight loss apps aren't among them. Calorie counters and coaching apps usually keep weight logging free and put the rest behind a subscription. These are the apps people most often mistake for free, alongside the ones that charge once:

AppModelPrice (Oct 2026)What paying adds

Apple lists every product a developer has offered, so you'll often see several prices for one plan. We've shown the main ones.

What do the free tiers of big apps leave out?

Rarely weight logging itself. Calorie counters want you to keep weighing in, so that stays free. What moves behind the paywall is whatever makes logging faster or deeper:

  • MyFitnessPal: its Premium comparison lists nutrition and weight tracking and exercise tracking as free, and barcode and meal scan, voice log, custom macro goals, ad-free logging, intermittent fasting and food insights as Premium only.
  • Lose It!: its listing puts barcode scanning and body measurements in Premium.
  • MacroFactor: no free tier at all after the 7-day trial.
  • Progress: progress photos are a Pro feature, per the listing's FAQ.
  • Weight Loss Simple Tracker: reads steps from Apple Health for free, but syncing weight with Health is Premium.

Dedicated weight trackers follow the same pattern on a smaller scale. Photos, export, sync and forecasts are the usual paid extras. That's fair pricing for many people. It just isn't free.

Is Apple Health enough on its own?

For a lot of people, close to it. Health is free, already installed and stores every weigh-in you enter or a smart scale sends. Apple says Health data is encrypted on your device and end-to-end encrypted in iCloud when you use two-factor authentication. You can export everything, though only as one large XML file.

Where it falls short for weight loss: Apple doesn't describe a goal weight, progress photos or a smoothed trend line for weight. So a common setup is to let Health collect the numbers and use a free tracker that syncs with it for the view. Our guide to tracking weight with Apple Health covers setting that up without duplicate entries.

What does Periscope include for free?

Everything, because there's nothing to buy. Since it's our app, check the claims against its App Store page: it lists no in-app purchases, and there are no ads or subscription. For $0 you get:

  • Weigh-ins in kg or lbs, several a day if you like, with a note and up to two progress photos each.
  • A Reports tab with weekly, monthly and yearly cards, each showing a smoothed trend line, rate of change per week, lowest weigh-in, BMI and an optional goal line. The Home chart shows raw weigh-ins; the trend lives in Reports and the widgets.
  • A before/after photo slider with a Play animation and a body-outline alignment tool.
  • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets on iOS 17 and later.
  • Apple Health sync, so smart-scale weigh-ins come in on their own, plus reminders, a Face ID lock and a goal weight.

Weights, photos and weigh-ins synced from Apple Health stay on your iPhone.

The limits, plainly: you create an account with Sign in with Apple, and there's no data export, no sync between devices and no Apple Watch or iPad app.

Where do other free apps beat Periscope?

  • Weight Diary Lite gives you a trend line, a time-to-target estimate, BMI and backup, import and export for free, with no account. If you don't care about photos, it's a real alternative.
  • Weigh In has CSV import and export and a policy saying nothing leaves your phone, with no account.
  • CompareMyself pairs free photos with weight and keeps them on the phone, though it has no trend line and was last updated in June 2025.
  • Weight Gurus and RENPHO Health measure far more if you own their scales, and RENPHO Health has an Apple Watch app.

Our verdict

For most people who want a simple weight tracker and never want to pay, Periscope is our pick. Among free trackers that don't need specific hardware, it's the only one here that combines a smoothed trend, progress-photo comparison and widgets without a purchase. Weight Diary Lite is the closest rival and wins on export and no-account use; Weigh In wins on simplicity and CSV export if weight is all you log.

  • Trend line, progress photos and widgets for $0: Periscope.
  • Trend line and export, no photos, no account: Weight Diary Lite.
  • Weight only, CSV export, no account: Weigh In.
  • Free side-by-side photos, no account: CompareMyself.
  • You own a RENPHO or Greater Goods scale: that scale's own free app.
  • Nothing to install: Apple Health.
  • Happy to pay once to skip subscriptions: Weight Diary ($7.99) or Fitness Trackr ($4.99).

Whatever you pick, the numbers only help if they make sense. Our explainer on what trend weight is shows why daily swings mislead, and the free weight trend calculator smooths your own weigh-ins with no app at all. Daily weighing helps many people and distresses others. If it's the latter, or you have a history of disordered eating, step back from the scale. The National Eating Disorders Association offers support.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a completely free weight tracker app for iPhone?

Yes. Periscope, Weigh In, CompareMyself and Weight Diary Lite list no in-app purchases as of October 2026. Apple Health is also free and already installed.

What's the best weight tracker with no subscription?

For free, Periscope has the widest feature set, including a trend line, progress photos and widgets. If you'd pay once, Weight Diary costs $7.99 with a trend line, export and no account.

Is Apple Health good enough to track weight?

For recording weight, yes: it stores every weigh-in, charts it and pulls in readings from smart scales. Apple doesn't describe a goal weight or progress photos, so many people pair it with a tracker that syncs with Health.

Are free weight tracker apps safe?

Check where the app stores your data before installing. Periscope, Weigh In and CompareMyself keep weigh-ins on your phone; scale apps such as RENPHO Health store readings in their own cloud.
